Autism Can Do Everything

Autism is a condition where a person feels to have their own world. No one can avoid this condition. They say that autistic people can not communicate or socialize with the community. However, the fact is not like that. Children with autism communicate and socialize in their own way. They are normal like ordinary kids. Even every autistic child have an incredible ability than normal people.

That's what I got from my visit to an autistic school in the city of Padang. They go to school and learn like a normal kid, and get the skill education at the weekend. They look very happy and excited. Some of them are great at drawing, counting, create works of art, music, and even cooking.

They can choose the classes they want. However, every week every child gets a turn to enter the class.

All children doing gymnastics and Minang dance in the morning. The teachers help them to follow every movement correctly.

Raymond from drawing class. He is a cheerful and active boy. Raymond always smiles at my camera every time I turned my camera towards him.

Iqbal, a cheerful kid. He is an autistic child with mental retardation. He has the academic ability equal to normal people, but he was also quick to forget what he learned. However, he quickly learned something new.

No pairs, but still comfortable to use. Like an autistic person, they do not fit with the regular world, but they are greater than ordinary people.

A teacher guided Yazid to read the newspaper and learn about the world. Yazid like newspapers.

Ulfa, Noval, Askar, and Iqbal, playing outside the classroom

Yazid, a child who has exceptional intelligence. He likes reading newspapers, counting, and playing computer games.

Nando, one of autistic children in drawing class. He is good at drawing. He is very interested in my camera shutter sound and try to use my camera. May Nando became a good artist.

Noval play his blocks. He stack his blocks into a single pillar building. Noval has severe autism, but maybe he wil be a good architect sometime.

This game became their favorite games. While playing, a girl named Ulfa asked her teacher, "Mom, is it edible?" But she can arrange the blocks without seeing it. An autism usually clever in arranging goods into a particular pattern.

Autism does not mean can not do anything. They can do everything.
